After all the great outdoor activities you’ve experienced on your holiday to Competa, it’s time to scratch that shopping itch and get in some relaxing retail therapy. But where should you go to get good quality items or to find those bargains? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered right here. Let’s take a look at some of our top tips.
For Bargain Designer Gear
A drive down the coast to Malaga, just past the airport, takes you to the newly opened McArthur Glen Designer Outlet.
Located next to Plaza Mayor, already the city’s most visited shopping centre with more than 10 million visitors, it is the very first designer outlet in southern Spain. Home to more than 100 luxury, designer and high street brands, they promise visitors year-round savings of up to 70%.
Parking here is free and plentiful, and it is easy to find, just off the A7 motorway. It is a pleasant place to stroll around and there are numerous cafes and restaurants for you to rest your weary legs before heading off to snap up some more bargains.
For Local Artisanal Products
Competa is well known for several local artisanal products that make great moments of your trip or presents for those back home. The local hand-painted pottery is always a favourite, thanks to its bright colours and interesting designs. Bowls, plates, vases and jugs are all available in a kaleidoscope of reds, blues, yellows and whites. There are also smaller options such as oil dispensers and salt and pepper pots.
Other popular local products include the outstanding Competa honey, olive oil, wine and even rugs. Competa is full of locally-ran shops offering these any many more goods to tempt you into parting with your Euros, and you may be pleasantly surprised at the prices.
For The Experience
If you’d like to get your shopping fix and mingle with the crowds at the same time, you can’t go wrong with the local markets. Attracting locals and tourists alike, there’s a market somewhere locally every morning – not that we’re suggesting you go to them all!
Usually opening around 10:00 and closing by 14:00, the local markets offer a huge range of items, from fresh veg, meat and fish to clothing, fabrics, linens, pottery, spices, olives etc, etc. You won’t know what to look at first.
Competa’s market, quite small compared to some others, is held in the Plaza Andalucia every Saturday morning. You can find larger markets in Torrox Costa on Mondays, Nerja on Tuesdays and Torre del Mar on Thursdays.
